The Role & Requirements Safety in the rail industry is paramount and in the role of Conductor you are responsible for the safety of customers on board our trains. You will carry out regular operational safety checks on and throughout the train and at commuting stations, you will also deal with any unexpected and/ or emergency situation as they arise. You will patrol the train and be on hand to provide our customers with information and assistance relating to their journey. You will assist customers who may need special attention or assistance. You will ensure that all customers have valid travel tickets by conducting full ticket checks and issuing tickets where necessary, handle cash and process debit and credit card transactions. You will also be responsible for communicating customer safety and journey information by making regular public address announcements. Skills & Experience You will be a clear and confident communicator with excellent problem solving and team working skills, coupled with the ability to work well under pressure and be able to think on your feet, particularly in disruptive situations. It is essential that you have worked in an environment where health and safety were paramount. You should also have a minimum of 3 years experience in a front line customer service role with experience of cash handling and customer assistance. Reference Salary In return for your commitment and ability we offer a very attractive salary of £22,634 per annum on completion of training. During training, which may last up to 6 months, the trainee salary is £13,701 per annum based on a 35 hour week, shifts and weekend working are involved. In addition our benefits package includes free and reduced rate rail travel and membership of a contributory final salary pension scheme. Due to the nature of this post and rail industry safety requirements there are certain medical and fitness standards that you would be required to meet if successful.
